Scholarship Description
The Government of the Czech Republic offers a number of Undergraduate, Master’s and Doctoral scholarships within the framework of its Foreign Development Assistance Programme in support of the study of foreign nationals from developing countries at public institutions of higher education in the Czech Republic.

Scholarships are granted by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in accordance with the programme for the support of study by foreign nationals in the Czech Republic, managed by the Minister of Education.

Eligibility/Admission Requirements
The scholarships are intended solely to promote the studies of adults who are foreign nationals from developing third countries in need. Neither a citizen of the Czech Republic, nor a citizen of a member state of the European Union, nor any other foreign national with a permit to permanent residence on the territory of the Czech Republic may therefore be granted this type of scholarship.

Furthermore, the scholarships may not be granted to persons under 18 years of age. (The applicants have to turn 18 as of 1 September of the year when they commence studies in the Czech Republic at the latest.)

The Government Scholarships are designed to cover the standard length of study:

1). in Bachelor/Master/Doctoral study programmes plus one-year preparatory course of the Czech language (which is combined with other field-specific training).
Government scholarships of this category are awarded to graduates from upper secondary schools, or Bachelor's/Master's degree courses, as applicable, who can enrol only in study programmes in which instruction is given in the Czech language. Depending on the subject area, applicants are normally required to sit entrance examinations at the higher education institution concerned. Successful passing of entrance examinations constitutes a precondition for the scholarship award; Or

2) in follow-up Master study programmes or Doctoral study programmes.
Government scholarships of this category are awarded to graduates of Bachelor or Master study programmes, respectively, who enrol in study programmes with instruction in the English language.

A university or faculty may set further conditions of admission. The fulfilment of the set conditions is generally verified by means of an entrance examination. Basic information on the admission procedure are published well in advance by the faculty or university.

Scholarship benefits
The scholarship will cover the cost of the bachelors, masters or doctoral programme in Czech Republic.

A scholarship covers the strictly necessary costs of living and studying in the Czech Republic. The amount of a scholarship is adjusted regularly for Bachelor, Master, follow-up Master students and Doctoral students. The scholarship includes an amount intended to cover the cost of accommodation.

Students also receive free tutoring and free essential health care in case of illness or accident under the same conditions as Czech citizens. The costs of accommodation, food and public transport are covered by grantees out of their own resources under the same conditions as students who are Czech citizens.

Scholarships are not transferable to other persons or to different academic years. As soon as a scholarship is awarded, it is not possible to change the selected public university, study programme, or field of study.

Method of Application
Each applicant is obliged to fill in an electronic application form available here. The applicant shall carefully fill in all the blank boxes of the application form whilst observing the instructions for each box. The applicant shall send the completed application form to the Embassy in electronic form, i.e. by completing online registration. If selected, an interview may be required.

The most successful applicants shall be asked to submit complete documentation by a given deadline that the Embassy shall determine so as to ensure that proposals for scholarships to be granted in a new academic year are at the disposal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic (Development Cooperation Department) and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic (International Relations Department) in Prague by 31 December at the latest of the year prior to the given academic year.

DEADLINES:
The date from which application forms may begin to be submitted electronically is published on the website of the pertinent Embassy or of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports approximately in July of the year prior to the given academic year.

Each applicant must submit the electronic application form at the latest by 30 September of the year prior to the given academic year (i.e. the calendar year that precedes the academic year for which scholarships are offered)

PLEASE NOTE:
A limited number of scholarships is offered also to applicants from selected developing countries through the UNESCO. Each applicant is obliged to fill out an electronic application form available at: http://registr.dzs.cz/registr.nsf/unesco.

Foreign nationals who have been granted permanent residence in the Czech Republic are not eligible to apply for Government scholarships.
