Contact the following organisations for details of the awards available for overseas students:

British Council awards
British Council awards and scholarships are available to certain overseas students to pursue postgraduate study. Details of the award scheme should be obtained from the British Council representative, British Embassy or British High Commission in the candidate’s own country.

  • 9/11 Scholarships for International students
The UK 9/11 Scholarships Fund was established jointly by the World Trade Center Disaster Fund and the British Council. It seeks to award scholarships to children or dependants of victims of the September 11 attacks on the USA, or other subsequent terrorist tragedy, for study at higher or further education institutions in the UK.

Innovation 360 is designed to discover innovative minds across Nigeria; people who have the kind of ideas that will help solve challenging problems and move the country the next step up. If you’ve got what it takes, then get involved and join us on this adventure of creative discovery.
Foreign and Commonwealth Office awards: Chevening scholarships
Awards varying in value are offered to overseas students through a number of different schemes. There are special schemes for students from certain overseas countries. Further details are available from British missions in the candidate's own country.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Also see these:
  • Chevening Scholarships for African students
The Chevening Scholarship Programme is a prestigious financial aid awards scheme (funded by the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and administered by the British Council) that funds international postgraduate students who want to study in the UK for one academic year.

  • Commonwealth Scholarships for Developing Commonwealth countries
The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) is an international programme under which member governments offer scholarships and fellowships to citizens of other Commonwealth countries. The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom (CSC) is responsible for managing Britain’s contribution to the CSFP. Commonwealth Scholarships for students from developing Commonwealth countries are offered for Master’s, PhD, and split-site (PhD) study in the UK.

  • DFID Distance Learning Scholarships for Developing Commonwealth Countries
Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships offer the opportunity to study for a UK Master’s degree while living and working in your home country. Since 2002, the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) has offered Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships of its and DFID’s commitment to exploring new methods of scholarship delivery. Rather than offering these scholarships directly to students, the CSC works with UK universities. To date, we have funded courses at over 20 UK institutions, awarding over 1,000 scholarships to students from across the developing Commonwealth. The CSC supports around 700 awards annually.

  • Commonwealth Shared Scholarships for developing Commonwealth Countries
Awards made under this scheme are jointly funded by the Department for International Development (DFID), as part of the UK international development programme to developing countries, and participating institutions in the UK. The scheme is administered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC), whose secretariat is provided by The Association of Commonwealth Universities. The Scheme allows students from developing Commonwealth countries who would not otherwise be able to study in the UK to benefit from postgraduate study at a University in the UK which will help them to contribute toward the development of their home countries
